Outdoor Adventures

Ok we get it, this one is British Summer Time permitting, but one of the best ways to keep your kids entertained is by taking them outdoors. Parks, nature walks, and picnics are excellent free ways to enjoy the summer weather. 

Organise a treasure hunt in your local park or go on a nature walk to learn about different plants and animals (bonus points for using apps like PlantSnap to bring some extra education into the mix). A picnic with family and friends can also be a delight, packed with  snacks and outdoor games.

Creating DIY games like mini obstacle courses or a scavenger hunt can also be fun. We even created our own crazy golf course once and used ping pong balls to save the windows. It will take a lot longer to build then play! 

These activities are perfect for rainy days when outdoor play isn’t an option.

Arts and Crafts Projects

If you prefer indoor activities, arts and crafts can be a fantastic option. Setting up a craft station at home where your kids can create their masterpieces means you save time unpacking and totally cleaning up every time. Just for the summer, dedicate a small space in your home to creative chaos and it’ll save you hours! 

We’ve used our old shed in the past and let the kids run riot on the walls. They loved it!

It’s also worth checking out supermarkets for budget craft kits. We picked up a £6 summer stain glass painting kit in Tesco last week. Not only did this fill up an entire afternoon, but we have some lovely decorations for our next BBQ.

Getting the kids dressed during summer can be challenging. The heat means it’s essential to choose outfits that are comfortable and help your little ones bodies regulate. Oh and let’s not forget the ability to move freely, enjoy their activities and be easy to wash (ok thats a boring practical one).
